Let’s kick off this blog by breaking down a few common misconceptions about mediumship and spirit communication—because there’s a lot of misinformation out there.
One of the most frequent (and frustrating) things I hear is: “Mediumship is connecting with familiar spirits.”
So… what is a familiar spirit, really?
In a literal sense, it's just that: a spirit you're familiar with. Someone you’ve known, loved, or connected with before—like a passed loved one or ancestor.
But others twist this phrase to mean something dark. They claim that it's a demon pretending to be your loved one, trying to trick you or spread false information through spirit communication utilizing mediums.
Let me be clear: people who say that often have zero discernment and a lack of understanding of what mediumship is.
Every true medium—and every intuitive or psychic—has the ability to read and discern energy. We feel what’s around us. We know the difference between dark, malicious energy and something nurturing, peaceful, and loving.
When a medium connects with your loved one, they’re not guessing or hoping—it’s a felt experience. We sense their presence, their personality, their emotions.
And let’s be honest—energy doesn’t lie.
Have you ever met someone who seemed nice, but your gut just said, “Something’s off”?That’s discernment. That same inner knowing applies to spirit communication. No matter what a spirit says, you can feel their true nature.
Now let’s talk demons for a second—because people love to give them way too much credit.
The goal of dark energy is chaos.

Ask yourself this: Have you ever seen a legitimate mediumship reading that caused chaos? Have you or someone you know ever left a legitimate reading feeling worse?
Chances are, no because that’s not what happens.
People leave sessions feeling lighter, more at peace, amazed, and often transformed. They feel comforted knowing their loved ones are still with them. There's nothing dark or evil about that. No tricks, no agenda. Just healing.
And honestly? Most people don’t even feel the need for another session right away. They walk away with a healthier, more peaceful view of life and death.
Demonic experiences? Rare. Studies show that only about 10% of people in the U.S. report ever encountering something truly dark or demonic—and many go their whole lives without such experiences.
So let’s stop spreading fear and giving energy to what isn’t present. Mediumship is about healing, love, and connection—not chaos or fear.
2. 🗣️ “If mediums can talk to spirits, why don’t they get everything right?”
This one always makes me smile—because it’s based on the assumption that communicating with Spirit is just like chatting with someone on FaceTime.
It’s not. Not even close.
Here’s the truth: Spirit doesn’t have a physical body. No vocal cords, no mouths. So they use our five senses to communicate— in a very different way. Mediums receive messages through:
Sight (inner visions or images in the mind’s eye)
Sound (inner hearing, not external voices)
Feeling (emotions, chills, or pressure)
Taste or smell (sometimes literal, sometimes symbolic)
This all happens internally—it’s subtle, layered, and requires deep focus and trust.
Imagine trying to talk across a football field without a phone, with a crowd between you and the person you're trying to reach. That’s what it's like to communicate between realms.
So yes, sometimes things are misinterpreted. Sometimes our own thoughts or feelings get in the way. But mediums train, practice, and dedicate themselves to becoming better at interpreting Spirit's messages clearly. And most of the time, the messages do come through beautifully. 3. 🔍 “Can’t mediums just ask Spirit how someone died?”
Here’s the thing: we can’t force Spirit to say anything. They have free will, just like we do.

Sometimes, they choose to share those final moments. Other times, they won’t. Why? Because for some, those moments were traumatic. Painful. Heavy.
Ask yourself this: If someone asked you to relive the most traumatic moment of your life—would you feel like opening up? Probably not.
Spirit is no different. They share what they want when they want, and what serves your highest healing.
4. 🔮 “Aren’t mediums just necromancers?”
Let’s clear this up with some real definitions and context: Mediumship
Definition: The ability of a person (a medium) to act as a bridge between the living and the spirit world, often to relay messages from deceased loved ones.
Key traits:
Often associated with comforting the living by passing on messages.
Typically practiced in spiritualist traditions or New Age contexts.
Seen as more "passive"—the medium allows spirits to speak through them or around them.
In modern times, it's sometimes framed as a kind of "healing" or "closure" service.
Necromancy
Definition: The act of intentionally summoning the spirits of the dead, often to gain secret knowledge, control the future, or obtain hidden wisdom.
Key traits:
More ritualistic and "active"—the practitioner invokes or conjures specific spirits(without permission from anyone).
Historically tied to occult practices and ancient magic traditions.
Often seeks power, insight, or manipulation of events. Not healing.
Historically tied to dark magic or manipulation.
See the difference? Mediumship is connection. Necromancy is control.
Mediums are not conjuring or commanding anyone. We don’t call in your loved ones against their will—we simply receive who’s around you.
A Note for My Christian Readers
If you’ve made it this far and you’re Christian, I want to acknowledge something important.
Yes, the Bible does mention mediums and spirit communication:
“Let no one be found among you... who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.”—Deuteronomy 18:10–11
I believe these warnings were rooted in protection. There were people who misused these gifts—whether through ego, dark intent, or lack of discernment.
But the ability itself is not inherently dark. The source and the intention behind the connection are what matter most.
Discernment is key. Without it, anyone—spiritual or not—can be misled. Final Thoughts
Mediumship isn’t about perfection. It’s not about power. It’s about healing, connection, and love.
We do our best to interpret what Spirit shows us, and while we may not always get it 100% right, we come from a place of heart, truth, and deep respect for both Spirit and the living.
